Bean Fiend is a small-batch coffee roasting company based in Wilmington, NC. Founded by Geoff Banks and Evan Swann, their mission is to provide premium, luxury coffee to people who are unwilling to settle for just good.
What sets Bean Fiend apart is their unique fermentation processes and ethically sourced beans. They focus on building personal relationships with farmers to ensure the product they provide is truly one-of-a-kind, while providing flavors that you can’t find anywhere else.
A rebellious mark that shouts passion and a bold obsession with coffee.
I could tell Geoff was passionate about coffee from the first call we had. He had a clear vision for his brand and I knew I could execute it for him. I needed to come up with a mark that went against the grain, something that would stick out in his industry.
A skull was the first visual that popped into my head when I read the “Bean Fiend” name. It perfectly embodied the undying passion for coffee that the brand stood for. I refined this idea into a character that could was easily recognizable and unapologetically different.
Brand design for real-life applications
When thinking about color, I embraced the surfer look that would resonate with locals. In Wilmington, coffee and the beach go hand-in-hand. I chose a gothic typeface that would enhance the rebellious nature of the identity.
After filling out the majority of the brand, Geoff requested a label design for their custom coffee pouches. Having killer packaging gives the customer a full and complete experience of the brand.
